Welcome to our website, “Guess What’s Behind the Mask”!
With the COVID-19 pandemic raging across the world, wearing face masks has become a key strategy to reduce the transmission of the infection. At times, face masks have been required pretty much everywhere, from schools to grocery stores. While saving us and others from the harms of the virus, the masks can also impede effective communications as they cover part of the face and others are no longer able to see our mouth.
The good news is that we can still use other areas of our face such as eyes, eyebrows and forehead to express our feelings and emotions. We created this website to conduct a research study on the impact of wearing face masks on perceiving facial expressions and emotions and to see if the visible areas of the face are able to convey our emotions with the lower part of face covered. We further plan to study factors affecting this process such as color and type of masks and age group and gender of the people.
We ask you to join us in this exciting project, by viewing a few pictures of people wearing face masks and trying to guess if they are happy or sad. Your answers will help us determine how well people can communicate behind masks and how we can come up with solution to improve it. Thank you!
