Hello and thank you for visiting our website! We are Elena Jafari and Elika Jafari, students at Corona Del Mar Middle & High School in California. We have a passion for science and research and we love to learn more about the world we live in and we hope to be able to help others by the research projects we do!
This website is dedicated to our study, “Guess What’s Behind the Mask”. We started this research project to better understand the impact of wearing face masks on perceiving facial expressions.
It all started one not-so-ordinary day in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic, when we were out with some friends, all wearing face masks. The question popped up if we could guess who is smiling and who is not smiling, just by looking at eyes and eyebrows of our friends, and the game inspired us to do this project!
With the lower part of our face covered, how well can we convey our feelings to others? Will they see if we are happy or sad? Help us to answer this exciting (and relevant) question!
